1. sunlight
2. if you have fish in the tank thats all you need with the sunlight
3. just get a filter/airator.

it depends what kind of plant you have i mean they all need different things some need current like some salt water plants need those etc.. the plants i have grew veryw ell in my tank with just the 3 i listen excluding the filter n airator though. it was called an Anachris.

Technicly not. All you have to do is have a filter and plant grow light bulbs. I got my bulbs at home depot.

In recent years it has become popular to put aquatic plants in fish tanks. These plants not only add attractiveness to the tank, but they give the fish a place to spawn and hide. Real aquatic plants also keep the chemistry of the tank balanced and provide fish with food and oxygen. I get live plants for all my fish tanks, and the only reason I’ve ever had to get a new one is because the fish eat them so much that all that’s left is stalks! I have a water filter and sunlight hits the tank for about three hours of the day and my plant doesn’t need anything else. When you get the plant, they will give it to you in a bag, and the bottom will be rubber – banded. DO NOT undo the band. Simply dig a small hole in the gravel, place the banded end in the hole, and push more gravel around it. If the plant is too big, and taking up necessary plant space, you can trim from the top.

If you do still that you need to buy stuff, here are some products with directions. I suggest the last, from Aqueon, because of good experiance with the company. If you go to the bottom of the pages and click the costomer review tab, you can see what everyone else thinks :
